Susan began her path to business ownership in 2005, when she first began baking desserts for a local restaurant. At the time, she still worked full-time during the day and did her baking at night.

As her family grew, she decided to expand the business and offer decorated cakes and wedding cakes.

“Pretty much anything that someone wanted me to bake, I would figure out a way to make it for them,” she said.

Local dessert aficionados began to take notice. When Wagner’s IGA in New Bremen opened, they approached Susan and asked if she could bake and sell her desserts in their store.

Six years later, in 2019, Susan took the next step and decided to open a storefront of her own. The Pie Shell is located at 468 S. Washington St. in New Bremen – ironically, in the same shopping center as the IGA.

Besides pies, the store offers cheesecakes, cupcakes, brownies and more, all homemade and from scratch.
